Investing in our community

2009-10 School Year Starts August 24 and Things are Already Humming at DW!

School starts Monday and the Daniel Webster campus has been humming with activity and anticipation this week. New and veteran parents joined together with volunteers from the San Francisco Education Fund to give all three kindergarten classrooms, the teachers’ lounge and the principal’s office a new coat of paint.

Much was done over the summer to brighten things around DW as well. Thanks to the SFUSD, the cracked and creviced blacktop in the upper play yard has been resurfaced and the whole building has colorful new floors to replace the peeling and rotted linoleum.

In mid-August, PREFund sponsored two parents and two teachers to attend a 5 day workshop on garden curriculum at Occidental College. They returned with much to share and great enthusiasm for the potential of our newly installed edible garden. PREFund will be funding a part-time garden coordinator throughout the school year to ensure that our garden flourishes and becomes an integral part of our school community.

Five of PREFunds’ founding members have kids starting in Spanish Immersion kindergarten and we’re excited to welcome new teachers to the staff, including new Kindergarten teachers Georgina Blackett & Angela Palmieri. We’re very fortunate to have secured such dynamic and passionate young educators. They will be a wonderful addition to the caring and talented staff and teachers already in place.

Look for a new and informative Daniel Webster website soon at www.danielwebster-sf.com, thanks to the web talents of PTA Secretary and 1st grade Immersion parent Diego Aguirre.

See you at school!
