About PREFund
Who We Are
The Potrero Residents Education Fund (PREFund) was founded in May of 2006 by a group of neighbors, both with and without children, to champion public education in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco through grantmaking and strategic and programmatic support.
Our funding comes from individual community members and families as well as local merchants, corporations and foundations who recognize that state money is not enough to provide the educational excellence we want for the children in our community. All the funds we raise go back into our community to underwrite enrichment and academic programs. In addition, we operate one preschool (Potrero Kids at Daniel Webster) and are developing another, and we serve as passionate advocates for quality public education.
Starting as a group of volunteers that first came together in 2005, PREFund then formalized in May 2006 into a donor-advised fund administered through The San Francisco Foundation. PREFund is now a standalone 501(c)(3) nonprofit, tax i.d. #26-3438302. We remain an all-volunteer group.
